Okay so you just got engaged and now you're on the hunt for a photographer... do you get one for your engagement photos and another for your wedding?? I am a firm believer that engagement photos, especially done with the same photographer who's capturing your wedding, are SO IMPORTANT. Picking a wedding photographer is no easy task, I know, and it's usually one of the first vendors that couples book! But booking a photographer for your engagement photos AND wedding photos allows you to build such a great relationship with them so that they can truly capture you and your love in the most authentic way possible. I believe so strongly in this that engagement photos with me are complimentary when you book me as your wedding photographer!

Engagement photos are probably my FAVORITE thing to shoot!! They allow you to get photos with your boo in multiple outfits that aren't your wedding attire, in a beautiful location that you can explore that is different from your venue, and are a low stress, low stakes, SUPER fun way to capture your love. They provide professional-level photos for engagement announcements, wedding invitations, wedding websites, and dang cute house decorations. They're a ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY to capture the incredible emotions and intimacy between you and your boo.

If you aren't already sold, here are four reasons you definitely should do engagement photos, especially with your wedding photographer:

You get to celebrate your love and your engagement!

That is absolutely something that should be cherished, enjoyed, and celebrated! Photos with the right photographer can feel like a date night. You'll walk away feeling more connected and more in love. Not to mention, photos can be a fun excuse to pop a bottle of champagne, get dressed up, and capture the emotions and deep connection between the two of you.

It allows you and your photographer to get to know each other.

But in a way that is even more valuable than over a drink or a cup of coffee. While I also will always have casual meetings like that with my couples, getting photos done by your photographer before your wedding day mimics the same environment and relationship you will have with your photographer on the day of. It allows everyone to get acquainted with each other, allows you to get a glimpse at what photos with your photographer are like, and helps you to feel more comfortable being photographed!

You'll loosen up + get comfortable in front of the camera.

Gaining confidence in front of the camera makes a WORLD of a difference. You can learn how your photographer will interact with you on your wedding day and get a glimpse into what the process will look like. Getting your photos done professionally for the first time can be intimidating! Your photographer will absolutely help you loosen up and get comfortable, and doing this during engagement photos instead of at your wedding when nerves may already be high is a great way to go about it.

You'll have timeless photos in something other than your wedding day attire.

These are photos you can use on your wedding website, save the dates and invitations, decor in your home, and for anything else you might want. Your wedding photos will definitely be gorgeous in the gorgeous clothes you so thoughtfully picked out, but unfortunately we don't get to wear wedding dresses or tuxes every day. (I mean you could, but...) Having some professional photos of you and your boo in clothes that truly feel like you are photos that you will treasure forever. Not to mention, you won't be caught up in the stress or business of a wedding day, so you'll probably be more relaxed and comfortable!

One of the best things about engagement photos is that they can be ENTIRELY YOU. They can be done at your favorite coffee shop, on the hike you took on your first date, in the comfort of your own home or wherever you want them to be done. You'll have an entire gallery of photos that just scream YOU that you can keep forever.
